Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November!

Guy(Guido) Fawkes

The Name and Phrase explains it all.

So How many of you have seen V for Vendetta? How many of you have read the graphic novel? Or even better, how many of you actually know who Guy Fawkes is and November the 5th stands for?

Guy Fawkes was one of many conspirators that took part in the failed Gunpowder Plot in mid-16th Century England, in an attempt to blow up parliament for righteous causes. He was discovered with a keg of gunpowder. firewood, and some matches on Midnight, November the 5th, taken into custody and was hanged, drawn, and quartered, as well as all the other captured conspirators.

He has become synonymous with the plot and The 5th of November was named after him as Guy Fawkes day.

Although this sounds kind of odd to celebrate, it would be later in the ironic event of November 5th, 1688 (83 years after the failed Gunpower Plot)when William of Orange landed and took over England during the Glorious Revolution, which symbolized the day for freedom and religion, emphasizing the importance of the meaning behind the Gunpowder plot.

There you have it, Happy Guy Fawkes Day!
